Intramuscular Dry Needle Therapy

Our certified physiotherapists at CPSIC are well trained to utilize dry needling to complement other physiotherapy interventions like manual therapy, patient education and corrective exercise prescription.

Dry needling uses fine needles to stimulate myofascial trigger points and functional anatomy. Trigger points are small, tight areas of muscle located within a larger muscle group that are known to “trigger” or refer pain to distant parts of the body. Dry needling works by stimulating the selected trigger point to release the tightened muscle resulting in pain relief and increased muscle function. Your physiotherapist may briefly piston the needle up and down before removal or use electrical stimulation on the needles to achieve these treatment goals.Dry needling can treat a variety of pain, both acute and chronic. It may be used as part of your customized and comprehensive treatment plan to effectively manage conditions like neck and back pain, strains and sprains, nerve injuries and many more.

Acupuncture/ Electro acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient eastern medical art. It is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and improve functioning through the release of endorphins. The body is made up of a number of meridian energy channels. A block in the channel or in energy can be the cause of pain or disease. With the use of fine filiform stainless steel acupuncture needles these obstructions can be unblocked and the flow of "chi "can be reestablished. Needling acupuncture points can stimulate the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, and those chemicals can change the experience of pain and they can influence ones own body to regulate the nervous system. Acupuncture can be used for a number of different ailments and can be effective as the only treatment or in combination with other forms treatment such as in conjunction with manual therapy.

Electro-acupuncture is an addition to acupuncture therapy whereby an electrical current is run from an electro machine through connecting cables and attached to the heads of acupuncture needles to assist in stimulating the muscle/fascia via differing electrotherapeutic methods.
